Does DirecTv ALWAYS shut off during rain?

I had it like 4 years ago and hated how the sat would lose a signal when it rained.. Have they fixed this or is there a work around? I think the picture quality is MUCH better than digital cable but I need to watch tv when it rains! P.S. Why is digital cable so "snowy" even when hooked up by S-VHS cables.. i never understood that.. It's not TERRIBLE but still noticeable.. DirecTv looked almost as good as DVD to me..

mine didn't. had to rain pretty damn hard to lose the signal completely. might get some artifacts every once in a while

There isn't a lot you can do about that... the clouds can block the signal sometimes. You can get one of those dish covers, make sure the dish is alligned perfectly so you get the best signal stength, and I have also heard that using a bigger dish helps the rain fade problems

bahaha--i've had mixed experiences, i've never actually owned it, but quite a few i know do, my dad's NEVER went out, on the other hand, my friends went out almost EVERYtime it rained, i guess it depends on where ya live more or less.

Our DirecTV only stops working when there's 3 inches of snow on the dish, or if its storming (thunder, lightning, the whole works 🙂 ) really badly

I've lost my dish signal maybe twice this spring. During those times it was raining so hard, I couldn't even see the dish sitting 8 feet out my window on the deck. So I'll forgive them 🙂

We used to have the original 18" round dish for a while and it would always mess up during hard rain, but now we have the phase III 18x20" triple lnb dish and it seems to tolerate the weather a lot better.

Just as vi-edit situation.... I tend to loose reception only if the conditions are so bad that I can barely see the dish from my window... one thing though... on a good day I get 98-99 on the signal meter...

My directv unit has a signal strength meter and I twweaked it to get as close to 100% signal strenght as possible. Now it only goes out in very intense rain storms.

Where are you located? The farther north you are the lower your satellite dish has to point. I do not have any trees or any other obtructions in the way so that helps as well.

my guess is that your friend's dish wasn't properly aligned and therefore was receiving a noisier signal to begin with.

Another vote for poor installation.

Who did it? Was it aligned only once or adjusted after the gross signal was recieved.

Should only go out during the most severe cloud or rain situation.

Our dish is pointed out through 2 big palm trees in our back yard in South Florida... It rains ALL the time and rarely does the disk go out. Only if its raining freakin BUCKETS does it go out and thats not too often.

In the two years I had directv, I lost signal twice and both were during REALLY BAD storms. Depends on where you are and how well the dish is aligned...

If your dish isn't pointed correctly you can lose your signal in light rain. If you are getting a good signal, you don't lose it unless it is raining hard.

If it's aimed just right you will only loose signal at times the weather is sooo bad that you should probably have all your electronics unplugged anyway.
