Does delidding have an effect on voltage needed for OC?

Hi,

Does delidding have a direct effect on the voltage needed in overclocking the 3570k? Because I plan to have mine delidded if there would be lesser voltage needed in overclocking.

though my temps are good with just a push setup for my H100i at 4.5ghz, I would just like to know if this would be the case.

Lower temperatures often allow lower voltage, but there's no guarantee.

Lowering the peak operating temperatures will lower the minimum required voltage for your processor to function stably at any given clockspeed.

The question you really are interested in the answer to is "how much lower?"

That difficult to answer because it varies from chip to chip owing to the process variation that is inherent across a wafer when it is manufactured.

With one of my 3770K's I saw a reasonable reduction (0.037V measured) in the required voltage that came with the ~23C reduction in temperatures while overclocking:

Your mileage will vary, of course, but the effect is there and it is considerable in my opinion.

In my case, my voltage requirements didn't drop at all but operating temperatures dropped significantly. I was able to attain a higher stable overclock, as I ran into temperature limitations before becoming uncomfortable with the voltage required.

Thanks for your reply guys. Good inputs on that. Right now, my i5 runs 68c tops during games. It would not go to 70 unless under prime95. I wanna delid the processor if i can overclock much higher with good voltages because at 4.8ghz, i use 1.425v and that is without stress test due to high temps and i might fry the chip so i only did a firestrike run on that. With 300mhz more, i bumped from 1.27 to 1.42 which is fuckin crazy
