does core 2 duo use same socket as core duo?

does anyone know if core 2 duo use the same socket as core duo? i am planning to upgrade my core duo lappy into core 2 duo since the mobile cpu is available at newegg.

The mobile version of core 2 duo uses the same socket as core duo, but not all core duo chipsets support core 2 duo..so you need to check compatiblilty first.

do u by chance to know how i can get those compatibility infor? i cannot find any helpful information from the hp website.

also will anyone need the mobile core duo cpu? since it is at the bottom of core duo product line, i have to wait till someone's core duo died, then i could have a chance to sell mine. is that the only way i can sell my core duo cpu?

Well..it would be easier if we knew what model your laptop was..you didn't mention it...
