This is a funny thread. I would doubt the store manager even makes $30 an hour. Well, put it down into simple terms:
Let's say the store manager makes $90K a year, but has to work 60 hours. That's only about $29.00 an hour. I think your friend is pulling your leg. I'd ask to see a pay stub as proof - but, that's just me. ;)

Every time I go into CC, I see a bunch of slackers. Their salespeople are usually hanging around in a group -- and then flock on you to try and make a sale. I'd say most are lucky if they make $15.00 per hour --- adding the base wage and the commission together.

Try 0 without commissions.
It is illegal to make 0 without commissions. I work a straight commission job (mortgage broker) so I know. If a sales employee makes no sales and hence 0 commissions, then the employer has to at least pay minimum wage. Of course, the employer could then fire the employee for lack of performance or take the min wage as a draw against future commissions (if any).
Anyway $30/hr = $4,800/mo. Not bad I suppose but not exactly Bill Gates either. In any sales job, a small minority of the sales force always makes the vast majority of the sales. In a commissioned-environment, this always makes for a large disparity in pay between top producer and waste of space. If this "friend" is a top producer, then I would certainly see this income level as acheivable. I know in my experience with CC that I have met some good, professional, and polite sales people there. Along with some bad ones too (okay the majority were bad) but the good ones I met were quite good. You don't get that kind of sales talent by paying peanuts or having poor incentives.

If any of you are good salesman or Telemarketing you should see if there is an MCI-Worldcom close by and apply.
My wife started there about 4 months ago and she has yet to bring home less than $1800 bi-weekly and thats after taxes. She makes anywhere from $30-38hr. Plus she makes an additional $30-35 more a day ($500+ month) on something they call Ammex. Thats adds up fast and easily pays the car payment and other bills. I tried working on the phones and it like to drove me insane. Its for some people but not this geek. I transfered in to the Security Dept at MCI a few years ago where I make much less. Thats where the wife comes in handy ;)

A friend of a friend said what?

There's a breakdown in communication in there somewhere, or someone's just plain lying. I'm sure $30 with commission is possible, if she's good. But salespeople do tend to exaggerate from time to time.

They make around 7.50/hourly plus commision. So either she sells mad stuff or she has a BS degree in bullshitting ;)

I work there son. Here is how it works, if you don't make minimum wage, you get paid a "garunteed hourly rate", or minimum wage. Now, lets say you made $150 in commission, minimum wage would have been $200. You get $200 this pay period, but start the next pay period $-50. So you really don't get a minimum rate, they just 'lend' you a little.

Sales Specialists/CSA's make 7.50 + commission ONLY on service plans. Those two sections don't sell much service anyway, so their commission is not enough to even cross $10/hour.

Bullsh*t. A regular sales associate on the floor does NOT make $30/hour as a standard solid salary. That's $60k/year for Cripe's sake.

$30 an hour/$60,000 a year is decent money. Defanitely nothing to start a thread over. I guess it all depends on the career field you are in I guess.

I don't know if anyone read my posts, where I explained how much a CC employee makes.

Been away for a bit and just read the replies about my Post. I was saying my wife makes an avg. $30hr. She makes a base of $7.00hr plus Commission. She is most often #1 in the center of 1400 Employees every 2 weeks and almost everyone who works in sales knows, they are after the commission and not the hourly. Yes its true....dont believe me?, then quit working at McDonalds and apply within MCI or another major company in the sales dept.
