Does ChiefValue ship a RMA replacement before they have received the defective part?

I just purchased a 2 x 512 MB Corsair Value Select PC3200 memory kit from ChiefValue.com.

Unfortunately, one of the sticks appears defective (over 200 errors, most at the same address, during one pass of MemTest86. Ran each stick alone and one was error free over night, the other developed errors almost immediately).

I need to RMA the memory to ChiefValue, but am worried about the possibility of getting another kit of defective ram and would like to hold onto the initial set until I have received and evaluated the replacment kit. If this too is defective, I would like to minimize my shipping cost by shipping everything back together.

IMO, thats unlikely. What is also unlikely is the replacement kit will prove to be defective - I'd go ahead and ship it out.

I just read Chiefvalue's RMA policy and they state that they won't send out a replacement till they have received the defective part.

🙁

mshan, I have the exact same error. Can you let me know if things became okay after you got the replacement memory .. or was it something else??

Thanks!

ChiefValue was great. They shipped out a replacment ASAP as soon as they received the defective RAM.

Luckily, the replacment modules were completely MemTest error free.

Great .. That helps. So failure of Memory Test is 'usually' due to memory! I'll go ahead and RMA with Kingston.

I believe there are other reasons to get MemTest errors. Mine were always at the same physical locations repetitively.

The Asus A7N8X is very, very picky about memory and I've read that it is often incompatible with some Kingston memory modules.

Ask your question here or just look throught the stickies (Senor Panadero is an awesome resource):

Also, I believe Kingston tests every memory location on all of their modules before they ship so it should have been not physically defective if purchased new recently.
