Here's a newsflash for you:
"Rednecks" are everywhere. I live in Atlanta and lived in Michigan. There were, by FAR, more "rednecks" in Michigan than there are in Atlanta.

Being from Chicago, we like to call them trailertrash in the north, and rednecks in the south. If you get out of Chicago into rural Illinois, many "folks" have a hick or southern accent.

At least from the small town where I grew up, Trailertrash and Rednecks are TWO TOTALLY different things. Then you can add country boy into the mix also.
From not so bad to awful here is how I rank it.
Country boys
Rednecks
Trailertrash

I'm from the NW suburbs of Chicago (mid-to-high middle class neighborhood) to a town in central IL - and boy are there some hicks down here! (As opposed to trailer trash/blithering morons back home/living with me at this point)

Nope, that's a redneck. Country boys, although naive, and sometimes of questionable intellect, are usually good folks, just kind of sheltered.
Rednecks have their mullets, drive the trucks or trans ams, and get drunk and pick lots of fights.
Trailer trash are scum of the earth.

In Wisconsin We call people from Illinois Flatlanders or F.I.B.S ....I guess my point is why do people constantly feel the need to label people who they consider "different" from themselves?
