If you want to share the same IP, you can either get a router or if you have Windows 98SE, ME, or 2000 on one of your machines you can put 2 NIC's in it and use Internet Connection Sharing. I don't know about Roadrunner but with AT&T @Home, you can pay for extra IP's, and they give instructions on how to do that on their website...

I have my cable connection shared through a cheap hub with a nic in each computer. You just plug the cable modem into the uplink port on the hub and then run cables to your computers.

TonyG: did you get multiple IPs from your cable provider? or your cable provider allows multiple PPPoE logins?

in order to share a single a single cable DSL connection, you'll need to have either a software NAT(ICS, Winproxy, NAT32, wingate....), or a hardware router. it could be either a delicated router, or could be a cheap computer that you put together to function as a router (most people use Linux..)

Bangsailio: well, your 100BaseT only hub might have a problem, since I think most of the cable/DSL modem have a 10BaseT interface.. which will not work. you'll need either a 10/100 or 10BaseT only hub/swtich...

I started out just using one ip address and shared it through 2 comps but I whent ahead and got another ip for an extra $5 a month. I now have 3 computers on the network and all three can connect to the internet at the same time with only 2ips and no problems.

for a little more than buying the NICs and cables and the headache of setting it up you might find the ease of use, and comparable cost of buying s gateway router like the Netgear rt314 or something from LinShitz...

TonyG, I haven't had such luck.. RoadRunner here in Austin left me playing "who's got the IP last?" when I tried that setup. They only authorize a certain # of IP address to be released. My wife and I would swap conrol of the net based on who renewed their DHCP lease last.

Winipcfg
release
Renew

repeat. ugh. That got old... fast.
