does burner software matter?

does it matter whether i use roxio or nero or whatever to burn stuff? i'm just talking basic audio and data...not backups of games and stuff...TIA

Its "popular" to say you use Nero, but for basic backups of data and music, there is no differance despite what the "in" crowd tells you. Just use whatever came with youre burner.

Nero has many more options than EZ-CD, but 99% of people never use them. For basic burning stuff, I agree with

actually, depending on the media and what cd player you're using, the program that burns MAY effect the outcome. mostly in older stuff from my experience.

example: friends stock 93' mr2 cd player doesn't like my hi-techs burned using clonecd, but nero was fine. the memorex's he had worked when burned w/ adaptec, but not w/ nero. it's fun trying to figure out what works and doesn't....

My burner came with NTI cd maker. It sucks. If I don't convert the MP3 files to wave manually, and then burn them, it will replay the last second of each song again before the next song starts. :disgust:

I use Nero. It has a little bit of a steeper learning curve than Roxio, but also has many other features. If you are just doing basic burning, get whichever is cheaper. Both work fine.

Sometimes software does matter, but for basic operations like making music and data discs any program will probably do. I'd use whatever came with the burner, unless it starts giving you problems.

However, just to point out that the program can make a difference...I upgraded to a TEAC 16X last year. Tried to burn a couple DreamCast games with the latest Disc Juggler. None of the burns worked on my dreamcast. I could burn music and data, both of which worked just fine in other machines and players (even the DC played the music discs). So, I had to convert all the DJ images to Nero images and everything worked. Maybe it was a combination of the drive and software, but something was messed up.

I say nero because it has a lot mor options and is so much more powerfull then adaptec. but if your just dooin same data and mp3 and such you can use whatever. i prefere nero because it works for me. ive had nothing but truble with adaptec and when i tried to install adaptec on Win 2k pro and it kiled my comp. i had to reformat cause ot it. Nero never give me problims

i use nero because the ez-cd creator stuff crashed way to much. plus i don't like crap running in the background and Adaptec (Roxio) put that stupid like prog in the systray by default, which just annoyed me to no end.

fireburner for various data and bin extraction

Roxio/Adaptec Easy CD Creator series is ghey. It have had problems with totally destroying Win2K system and incompatibility issues with Windows XP. Easy CD Creator doesn't work with CD writers that is not specifically listed in it's database even if it's a same OEM drive named under different brand in firmware and I heared it has some bugs with mode 1 CD-ROM (not CD-ROM XA) burning. Easy CD Creator metastasis is mightly hard to clean up. Once you install it, it's nearly impossible to complete remove it from experiences others had. Oh yeah install is like 100MB too.

On the other hand Nero doesn't contaminate the system so badly, it works with just about every CD recorder without having each single recorder on database and generally better rounded.

I like Nero for my own use but 99% of my clients use EZ-CD, bloated as it is, it's just easier for them to figure out how to use it. Lol and I'm all about them being able to understand how to use their stuff Also,I suggest a program like Nero to some of them and they'd look at me funny, they know Adaptec as a brand name, just like they know Creative Labs and
Matrox, they like vanilla, I sell them vanilla

Hmmm, OK, when i bought the Iomega/plex burner I tried to use the included EZ-CD, or what ever it was, it sucked ass, never did work right. Downloaded a copy of Nero, bam, problem solved.
