Does bodyfat continue even out during maintenance/bulking?

My weight loss has stalled since losing 35-40lbs from June 09 - New Years. Not a big deal since I reached my goal of 170lbs(actually made it to 165). So for the last month and a half, I had hopped back on creatine & whey protein eating at maintenance caloric intake and now back to 170lbs(probably water weight.) Anyway I noticed something unusual... despite being on a maintain level for 45+days, I still notice a very small gradual reduction of belly fat. Obviously at my stage, it's unlikely that I'm gaining muscle at any point during my cutting/maintenance phases.

Before I had lost 40lbs, I was relatively lean on the upper body with most of my fat around my flank, belly and thigh. Since I'm now around 10% bf, I only have 4 abs showing with the bottom 2 covered in a small layer that still seem to be shrinking still. My only guess is that since I'm still on a lifting and cardio routine that when I eat, fat distributes evenly and when I workout, fat is burned evenly which means that areas with more overall fat will continue to fade(or average out) while leaner areas will compensate by taking on fat for the same reason?

You are still losing fat because you are still on a calorie-restricted diet. Or an overall maintain but some calories are going to muscle and then there's a deficit in fat. Don't worry about leaner areas taking on fat and fatter areas leaning out; that isn't happening.

oh I'm not worrying, just curious on the science behind the belly fat loss while on maintenance. I'm not staying on it for long. I'm on a break and when the weather gets a little better, I will be revamping my diet and workout for a new goal of 155lbs.

Wow, I tried to type up a coherent answer twice and my browser cleared it both times. It CAN continue to decrease depending on your training program, intensity, and nutritional status. It typically only happens for beginners, but 6 months could still fall under beginner gains.
