I'm looking to buy an Asus or Gigabyte motherboard, and would like to know how well their BIOS hardware-monitoring is supported in Linux, especially fan/pump control. Does Linux even use the BIOS after boot?

In case I have to use lm_sensors, can you tell me if your Asus or Gigabyte model is supported? Like how many of your temperature sensors & fan controls can lm_sensors see.

Asus Maximus XI Hero
or
Asus WS Z390 Pro

I like the WS more, but fear there wont be much support in the online community, it being less common than a gaming board, and I'm using Linux which further reduces the user-base.

You would need to find out what hardware monitoring chip each board has and evaluate sensors support based on that.
