You can create and use as many profiles as you like. App-specific profiles have been there since catalyst 4.1 or so.
You can use a number of methods to choose them.but don't you have to choose them manually from the control panel?
Use the ATi taskbar icon. Also you might be able to use hot keys as well though I haven't tried this yet.how do you switch quickly?

Probably based on executable string and/or path which can potentially break if one or the other is changed.with nv drivers you specify the executable, so once set up, the driver automatically loads the profile when you launch the app.
