Does anyone use MediaOne/Roadrunner/AT&T's news server?

What the hell happened to it? It used to be the best news server of any ISP, now it sucks! Binary retention is less than half a day and completion is less than 40%. I'm using news.atl.mediaone.net ... for the past several (6) months I've been using EasyNews, which is excellent, but it costs $10/month and the cap is 6gigs.

Anyone have any similar experience? :|

Maybe it's a regional problem? News.we.mediaone.net (in L.A.) has no issues now AFAIK (although it was crappy about three weeks ago). Binary retention (even in the extremely binary-heavy CD image groups) is at least 4-5 days, and download/upload speeds off/to the newsserver is O.K. I'm very happy with the retention, but miss the good ol' days when newsgroup downloads seemed like greased lightning. :(

I fear the switch-over to @Home (which I know will be coming in <~1 year) from AT&T Broadband, and will probably be shoved off the cliff towards DSL with little more than a wing, and a prayer. I wonder how a possible merger with AOL/Time Warner, among other suitors, would affect their service, and possible switch-overs to @Home?

I use RoadRunner's news server. It has binary retention of 4-5 days. It's usually very complete. It's the only one I use, since it's free. This is in the San Diego area.

I've never been impressed with mediaone news servers. Although most people will never know the difference.
