Does anyone use Google Chrome 'notifications'?

I've finally had enough of random sites asking me if I want notifications from the site in question, so I've disabled the feature completely, but I haven't actually found a basic guide for what Google Chrome notifications do and look like. Does some kind of 'news feed' bar appear in GC with these on, or does the user potentially just get bombarded with pop-up messages?

No, a white box usually pops up in the corner of your screen, it's pretty small and it gives a picture sometimes, a caption (Usually the name of the website) a message. Turning this on does make Chrome run in the background all the time though.
