I seriously think the terrorists got the idea of ramming buildings with planes from Tom Clancy. If anyone has read "Debt of Honor" you'll remember that at the end of the book a plane crashes into the Capitol killing a bunch of senators and the President of the United States. I remember thinking that, "oh great, thanks Tom, you just gave terrorists a good idea on how to attack the US." I read that book like maybe 3-4 years ago. Now I just can't stop thinking that terrorists got the idea from Clancy.

What do you guys think?

perhaps, although Tom Clancy appeared on CNN commenting that this goes beyond anything he could come up with for a fiction novel. But, yes, I can just see it.. a group of terrorists sit together and discussing "Debt of Honor"...

I think the United States should have taken that book seriously and thought "hmmm, maybe this could happen and maybe we should do something about it."

Do you have an idea how many books depict national monuments blowing up?

there is no way they coulda known what happened would've happened. they may have wished it to happen, they may have thought there is a chance it might happen. but no way they KNEW for sure in advance that they would completely crash BOTH twin towers.

It was just a freak accident. It should've just been the original crash.

When I saw it on TV, I thought if this was a movie, people who say it was too far fetched, impossible, ruined the movie.
I thought Die Hard was almost pushing the limits of making a believeable movie.
Today, I am still quite in shock.

As a matter of fact, I do. What's your point?

We should ignore possible future tragedies just because it's been written about many times in fiction?

Does it really matter if they got the idea to use planes to attack the WTC? They didn't get their insanity from the books nor did they get their hate for americans. They obviously were going to die for their cause no matter what. If they didnt do the plane thing, they would have done someting just as drastic...

Tom Clancy is a gifted writer. Whether these crazies got their ideas from his novel is anyone's guess, but these guys are in this for the long haul, for years, for a life-time. They will always come up with something a bit more shocking, a bit more daring and more destructive. We will have them with us for a long time until we accept/learn how to rid ourselves of them.

Ummm... What do you mean? It was not an accident at all. Not one single aspect of it, except maybe that they hit the Pentagon instead of the Capitol.
