Does anyone still play Magic: The Gathering?

I played from Revised to Exodus, and quit until just recently. I sold all my cards years ago but I thought Magic would be a fun activity for my wife and I.

Holy hell, just looking through all of the new abilities and crap is pretty confusing. I picked up a couple of the Tenth Edition core set theme decks, which are easy, but looking at the "expert level" expansions, they've really added a lot of stuff in to the game since I last played. When I quit I thought for sure they couldn't add that many more cards without overlapping current ones, but damn.

Holy crap, they're up to 10th edition now? I break out my cards every great once in a while, but I think the newest stuff I have might be 5th edition.

I played a lot when I was in middle school; hell, it was all I did from 6th-8th grade. I was pretty damn good to. I played in tournaments, although I never went far.

I had a killer blue and white deck. I sold most of my cards some years ago, but like you, I was curious and looked at some of the new cards. There were a lot of new things that I didnt understand.

The game is still really simple, take 5 minutes to look at the abilities (at lot are the same old things just with new mechanic words. 'shroud' = can't be targeted and things like that). I play Magic Online as a time killer, might wanna look into it, then you and the wife can team up and play other people together.

I started with Revised and stopped around the time Visions came out(Think I was 15 or so). I was reading on Wikipedia a few weeks ago and it looks like they removed all of the famous cards like Lightning Bolt, Serra Angel, and Sengir Vampire from the basic set!

I actually managed to get the old Microprose computer version working in a Win98 VM on VPC 2007 on my Vista 64 machine a week or two ago. From playing a few games it looks like I suck pretty hard now.

I've been playing the online a bit, but you have to pay to create an account and then buy "virtual cards" at the same price as real cards. Thanks, but no thanks.

I agree with you though, a lot of the new abilities were already there, but did not have names..ie..Ball Lightning had "haste" or Serra Angel had "vigilance".

They are easy to figure out for me, but to explain to someone who has never played before, it is tough remembering all of them.

I'd be interested in purchasing them if you could come up with a list of em.

wow, that sucks...

i used to play in HS. Was pretty much all we did then, before class, after class, lunch, after school, weekends, etc, lol.

can be an expensive hobby also, especially making min. wage in HS.

I still have my cards somewhere. Haven't looked at them in about 10 years though. Thought about selling them a few times but I'd have no idea how to do it, especially since some cards can (or could) be worth several dollars or more.

i was gangster, stopped after ice age.

used to have a gaming league of sorts in my city, i was in HS at the time. i built a deck for <$5 that would consistently beat out a guy who had over $10k in cards. deck building skills > money.

I'd say the best way to sell your cards is look them up on eBay, or pick up a "Scrye" magazine. At least Scrye was pretty accurate when I was playing. Like I told ElFenix, i'd be interested in buying cards if you could tell me what you have.

I played back then too, and I know I've got some cards still floating around somewhere.

Had no idea there'd be a market for em today.

I played Revised and 5th edition back in elementary school. When MTG Online came out, I played the bet and it was a lot of fun. They gave you unlimited money, so every day you could get something like 2 starter decks and 10 boosters of each of the 4 initial series. Sad that they didn't keep it that way (essentially unlimited cards, play was only determined by people's deck builds, not money). I love CCGs but I just don't think they're worth the insane amount of money

I don't play anymore, but I hope the game is still popular. I have a Mox Jet that I won from a tournament that should still command a couple hundred dollars. I really should sell it before the game dies out.

I wouldn't mind - just let me know what you got.

I thought the game would die out too. Back in the day a Black Lotus would sell for 200 to 300 bucks. Now, over a $1,000. A NM grade 9 (or whatever) sold for $10k.

I started when Mirage was out and stopped at around Tempest. 10th edition? Dang, the only edition I saw some out was 5th. I used to play red/green or black, but eventually ebayed all of my cards. I remember being pissed because someone stole two or three of my just-bought Shivan dragons and calculator out of my backpack. I still have to return my friend's black land destruction deck. Good times.
For any one that's been keeping up: do they still list all of the card prices back to alpha/beta in the mags? Duelist and Scrye must be getting thicker by now if they still do.
