Remember trying to dl Mozilla from a local BBS and repeatedly being dropped at about 84% through.... Bah! Don't miss that much at all.

Oh how I miss L.O.R.D. I put up a 2nd line just for that game. I also had to put up another one for a MUD.

Man, what if you could play L.O.R.D. online still with lots of people.

Anyone want to setup an ATOT realm somehow?

I remember coming home from college in 94 and trying to connect to my favorite BBS which, as it turns out, no longer existed and some dude answers the phone. I quickly kill the connection but he *69's me and proceeds to berate me about calling at 3am. I tried to explain to him that his number used to be that of a popular computer bulletin board but I may as well have been speaking Greek.

Good times. =)

I remember when I got my first term program that could display images inline. Before that I had to download all my porn then log off to run the viewer. Once I could see it inline, I could view all my glorious 256 color, dithered GIF porn AS IT DOWNLOADED! My personal favorite BBS was called Cheez and Gritz, run by a friend of a friend of a friend. All the pirated software and porn a teenager in the early 90s could want.

I ran a CNet-based BBS named Dreamscape on my C64, 1200 baud, single-line, from 1985 to 1988. Had over 300 users in the greater Nashville metro area. No warez, just chat.

Ah yes... the "elite" boards. I remember I would eventually get to know sysops pretty well and ask them if they have an elite section. If he/she trusted me enough, I would be granted those rights. It was the best feeling in the world! Man, I really miss those days.

What BBS dialup software did you guys use? I mostly used a program called Telemate i think. And Telix. Man, I wish I had my old computer so I can boot it up and go through all my old stuff. I still have all my old floppies from way back though.

Oh hell yeah... I remember I got in a bunch of trouble when I was like 14 years old because I found a porn version of Swords of Chaos on a long distance BBS and racked up a huge phone bill... Those were the days.

I wonder what the Internet would involve into 15 years down the line. I've been on Anandtech for over 6 years now and not much has changed... hmmm...

LMAO those old "porn" games were so funny. When I was little, I downloaded a game called MCPOP (I think) on our old ega 286 from a BBS, and it was about this naked guy you moved around and had to find naked women to have sex with. Of course, you had to pick up a condom in the level first or else you'd get a disease and die. My mom caught me playing it and got pissed.

Man, it's been so long and the floppies I used to use for backups are long gone. :( I know I used Telemate though.

Yeah, I did the old BBS stuff. Even played their online stuff before MUDs came around. Used to use them for download pictures and such and sometimes just chatting.

The statute of limitations hasn't expired on most of the things I used to do back in the bbs days so I'll refrain from talking about them too in depth. :)

Candyland, Homestead, Cookie Jar, Bandit's Hideout, and more. Ah, those were the days.

What was your username back then? If you remember any of the following users, we probably crossed paths at some point:
Dreamguy
Nogoth
Punisher
Echolalia
Candyman
Marilyn
O'Hell
Bandit

I had a couple of get togethers at my house... a bunch of users brought their C64s, sorta like an old-school version of a LAN party.
