Does anyone own a fast Blueray player?

If you actually purchase the movie you won't have that problem. Studios have a special rental version of the movie that won't let you skip commercials or previews, retail versions don't.

I might be mistaken, because all of my movies are 7500 miles away, but I'm pretty sure that most of my retail movies have commercials in them. Then again, its been 5 months since I've even seen a blu-ray movie

Yup, my retail movies have unskippable previews and such. I just use the fast fast forward to get through them as quickly as possible.

In my experience, blurrays load up fast on an HTPC.

And oppo basically always includes higher quality parts, so I'm sure they're pretty quick too.

Same here. You get some extra headaches with HTPCs but they load BluRays fast.

Nope, just tried it on my 23FD BD player. Skip, skip, skip, top menu. 🙂 Maybe it's your player.

Can you skip the FBI warning? Then you won't be able to skip the commercials on some of the new rental discs. The best you'll be able to do is fast forward...maybe. If the studios author the disc so that the commercials cannot be skipped, you won't be able to skip them, no matter what player you use.

Again, this is only for the new rental discs. They are different from the retail versions. Retail version you'll still be able to skip the previews.

The best I can do is fast forward after waiting for each preview to come up first.
"Skipping" to me means being able to access the top menu after the FBI screen, not having to sit there and push the "skip chapter" or "fast forward" button until I eventually get to the top menu.

Well that is what "skip" means. With the new rentals, you'll just have to fast forward. You won't be able to "skip" the preview/commercial entirely like you can with a retail copy. You'll also get more commercials, although I can't remember the last Blu-ray I watched that had a single commercial. All the ones I own just show previews, which isn't a bad thing for me.

I keep up on movies, so previews are unnecessary for me.
I've switched mostly to ripping and playing them off of my media server to get immediate playback without previes and warnings and such.
(I had just purchased Pandorum since it was $10, so I used my PS3 to play it.)
I haven't rented movies for at least 10 years...

I don't rent movies either, that's why I find it funny that movies studios are forcing commercials on people that rent.
