Don't have one, haven't gotten any invites either. Haven't ever gotten any email that was more than a few tens of megs and I have tens of gigs free on my main account anyway.

The attraction is not having to worry about running out of space, and having access to all/most of your e-mail anywhere. I receive tons of fax attachments, so this service allows me to have a 1GB online history of received faxes available anywhere - for free. 🙂

Doesnt anyone use outlook anymore?
Unless you are using an Exchange server or a laptop, you can't take it all with you...

And what happens if google determines that gmail isnt profitable enough and shuts it down? Do you know what a pain it is to switch email addresses?
That's a risk shared by all e-mail services, even ones provided by your ISP. (ISPs go out of business or are acquired/merged all the time)

And no one's concerned about the scanning of emails to present ads?
I don't mind targeted ads on the side of the screen, it's the flashy banners and popups that are annoying. Google has already said that ads are targeted by machine-scanning of keywords only - something that Google is already doing with their search engine. Plus, I'm not paranoid. 🙂

That's a good reason to use your own domain for your email address. You can always forward mail to another address if you want.

Personally, I figure if someone were reading my personal correspondence, that would be punishment enough. I'm certainly not horrified by the possibility that some machine would be scanning my email for keywords.

Uhhh, with the numbers of invites going out...
Why isn't everyone getting 10 gmail accounts for themselves, allowing themselves 10 GB of online storage space? Just don't give out your email address to anyone, and email to your gmail account whatever you want to store online.

I don't have an account, nor have I been invited. I was interested in it for about a day or two, until yahoo upgraded my mail account from 6mb to 100mb. Now if only my main juno account would upgrade my mail storage from a horrible 2 megs.

Meh... I use my free 1and1.com account as an online dumpsite, but I suppose you could do the same with gmail if you want.
