i was hanging out w/ some friends last night, and i made the comment to one of them that i can't beleive that he still does not have a cell phone (and he's 26) - he's never had one and still has no plan to get one

i then started to think really hard... and he's the only person i know that does not have one... i can't even tell you the last time someone called me on my house phone...

so, anyone here NOT have a cellie?

WTF? Don't call it a "cellie," you girl. Mobile, handy, cell... those are okay.

And I only know one other guy who doesn't have one (he's a lazy f**k, won't get a job).

I got rid of mine after 5 years.

I was too tired of living slave to it and junk. Its just annoying. Most of the time I dont' want to be interrupted but some people have a complex where they must be ultra social. I notice kids in the city are like that (Toronto where I went to school) but unlike them us country bumpkins don't really like all that stuff. Who needs to call me that is so important it can't wait?

We have one in the truck for highway use and I've had to use it for 911 before when a guy's extension ladder FELL OFF THE TRUCK onto the middle of the highway at night (middle lane just waiting to cause a deadly accident).

I like my peace and quiet thanks :D

I refuse to own one. Both my boss and my wife have demanded that I carry one but I stand strong. I DO NOT want to be completely accessible to everyone at all times.

i praise people that do not have one. i secretly regret getting mine because i've jumped on the bandwagon of materialism. When people need to get to you, they will find a way to get to you.

I don't. I at one time had a tracfone then realized I had no use for a cell phone other than maybe in an emergency.

I don't plan on getting one too soon either. I wouldn't use it. All the people I know that have one basically just have 2 second conversations that go about like this:

"Hey how's it going"
"Good, and you?"
"Not bad"
"Well, I gotta go, I only have 400 minutes left and so I don't want to use them all up, I have 3 more days left on this month"

also I see/hear this type of call a lot:

"Hey"
"Hey man"
"What you up to?"
"Going to class in about half an hour" (this being said while they're standing around outside the classroom)
"That sucks"
"Well I gotta go, class will be starting soon"
"Later"
This conversation takes place between two roommates that were just separated about 5 minutes ago.

They make about 50 of these type of calls per day too. Its just an observation of mine here at college.

... if you're at home, if you're not then good luck.

Anyway my co-worker doesnt have a cell, he doesnt even have a credit card. And he's in his mid/late 20's.

Sorry I should of rephrased that. My father has one in his father's truck.

When I said "we" I meant as in the family though that wasn't clear. Not "we" as in my wife and I (because I'm about 20 years too young for marriage)

Times have drastically changed!
I had my first cell phone in 96. It was one of those Motorola Microtacs, my father got me in on the deal through the chamber of commerce with Cellular One for like $10 a month. Had no minutes but the minutes I think were under 30 cents in my local area of like a 40 mile radius. Roaming was 99 cents a minute and more though.

These days we have a family plan with 5 phones and paying about $300 a month. We get 4500 peak minutes good anywhere in the Sprint network, unlimited off peak, cellular to cellular, vision on 3 of the phones, and 50 minutes of roam.
These days the phones are smaller, more powerful, cheaper, and there are very few places in the country you won't at least get an analog signal. My old phone had like maybe a 30 number memory and that was about it. My current phone has palm os, as many numbers as the memory can hold, speakerphone, games, you name it. My wifes little phone even has a camera built in.

I'd say the cell phone and the internet are 2 of the biggest things to have happened to communication in recent years.

i have one, but my parents/employer don't know the number. So the only people that call are my friends (and only ~20 of fhem know the number) so i never get calls i don't want.

I don't, but I still live at home (during the summer). When I move out I'll get one.
