Does anyone make a better lappy display than Dell?

I am going to be helping pick out a laptop for my brother. He really likes the display on my 8500, and I can not remember seeing it's equal. That doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

Does it?

btw, dell just uses other manufacturers displays. My gf's had a Samsung that died and I replaced it with an IBM (from Dell).

Toshiba or Sony. The ones with the glossy surface. I was stunned by how vibrant the colors and images are...I've seen the screen on the 8500, but the one I saw on Toshiba and the Sony is in their own league.

i have an 8500 and i'm yet to see a toshiba/sony as good. but apples are the way to go for asethetics

I hope HP does. My boss is buying me an HP/Compaq NC8000 with a 15" UXGA LCD to replace my Dell Latitude C840 with a 15" UXGA LCD. Main reason is he wants my laptop and it only supports 1GB RAM. I need at least 1.5GB RAM (stupid Websphere crap). So I get a brand new lappy that should be the equal of my Dell (with the exception of more RAM).
both do 1600x1200 too.

The nicest one I've seen was on a widescreen Sony model at Costco.

Of the 3 laptops I own, I rank them like this

2 year old Compaq > 3 month old HP > 5 month old Dell

Fujitsu Crystal View or MVA screen's, like the one on the Lifebook N5010 model. A lot of people have a hard time picking between Sony or Fujitsu, they are generally two of the best out there. The Toshiba CASV is supposed to be a great display as well. You should go to a Compusa or a Fry's and check them out. It's worth it.

I got a 8500 with a Samsung screen and i am happy...

However... i have heard HORRIBLE things about the Hitachi screen which also used to be supplied on the 8500....(Dont know if it is still supplied by dell)

I've never seen a better Windows laptop display than the one on my Sony. Howerver, the iBooks displays are a little bit nicer.

the most beautiful display i've seen is the 17" powerbook, that has realestate like the prairies of montana

Sorry, apples may have been nicest a few years ago. In this day and age, the CASV, Xbrite, and MVA screens are in a league of their own. Apple screens aren't even on the same planet. Specifically, if you get a chance to see the Fujitsu N5010, check it out. It's the best laptop display in the market.
