Does anyone listen to jazz/blues anymore?

I know of John Coltrane but that's pretty much it.

Are there any other popular jazz/blues bands out there that you can recommend?

Your best bet is to checkout online radio to see what you like. I'm not sure what's going on with new musicians, but here's some I like...

Miles Davis
Christian Scott
Sonny Rollins
Coleman Hawkins
Lester Young
Glenn Miller
Duke Ellington
Tommy/Jimmy Dorsey
Charles Mingus

I have a decent selection on my trucks SD card. Not a crapload but enough to make an otherwise crummy drive every morning into a tolerable experience.

I've been getting into alot of jazz & jazz hip hop.
Although in traditional jazz I prefer instrumentals over vocal songs.
It has transformed and become mixed into other genres, which makes for some interesting mixes.

I'm listening to The Cinematic Orchestra atm. A mixture of nu/acid jazz, downtempo, trip hop & electronica. Good stuff.

Going to see a Chicago jazz-funk fusion band play at a local bar tomorrow night.

Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz series if you're interested at all in house music.

Checked out a few tracks on YT. Liked what I'm hearing. Added to my list of stuff to check out.
Thanks.

truly a legend and invented the genre. great live too, not sure if he does any mushroom jazz live, or if he's still playing the funky mark farina shit.

Django Reinhardt
Charlie Parker
Art Pepper
Chet Baker

and I know they've already been mentioned but.........

Lester Young
Miles Davis

I do. Couldn't tell you who many of the artists are though. I just throw on XM72 or the local jazz station and listen away. It's my morning music. I've been meaning to add some more albums to my collection. Got Blue Train and Milestones by Coltrane and Davis respectively. The latter is the 180gram limited edition. I have digital stuff from Frank Sinatra and Glen Miller.

Marking this thread... I listen to smooth jazz and chill electronica, and am interested in exploring the blues genre (I too don't know much about it).

Here are some suggestions:

Branford Marsalis: Trio Jeepy, Songs of Mirth & Melancholy.
Michel Petrucciani: The Power of Three.
Joe Henderson: Lush Life, Double Rainbow.
Chick Corea: Trio Music

There's also stuff which rocks more, e.g.:

Pat Metheny Group: American Garage, First Circle
Jean Luc Ponty: No Absolute Time
Chick Corea: Eye Of The Beholder

I think all of this is available on rdio.
