..my computer powers up by itself when I enable Wake-on-LAN on my system?

I am using Linksys LNE100TX NIC with KT7-RAID motherboard.

Actually, I had 4 machines to test on my lan, when pcanywhere broadcast a .255 search, it turn on all the machines that had wol on it... so someone else on your lan is tripping it up.. it could be another program that sends a broadcast packet instead of the wol packet..

The thing is that I have only two computers on my home LAN. And all 2 of them are off when the one that has WOL turns itself on. The only other thing on the LAN is the Netgear RT314 router.

unplug your computer completely from the network, it should not boot up then. the router will make broadcasts, which wake up your system....

Well, it doesn't when I unplug it... However, the point is how do I fix the problem with WOL-enabled computer connected to the LAN. If it's not on the network, then, of course, there's no problem... 😉

Well,

Although I don't know the answer to your problem, I think you may have some luck posting your message in the arstechnica.com forums. They recently opened up a networking messageboard.

Just a thought... though I think the Anandtech forums are fantastic.

Question on the side: What's the point of WOL in the first place?

Unless you need the PC to power up so you can access it from another station, turn the Wake on LAN feature off.

Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this..."
Doctor: "Then stop doing that!"
