If I remember right the vans left the factory as a regular 2wd van and were converted to 4x4 which cost $$$$$$ and the rest is supply, there ain't many.

Also, the gas ones are much cheaper, chevy makes an all wheel drive van from the factory.

I think that the bullet/bomb proof engine/transmission package is more than offset by the vulnerability to attack presented by the cloth pop-up tent top. Maybe ballistic nylon?

Bullet-proofed in a mechanical context, not literal bullets.

That vintage van has the 7.3 liter diesel - acknowledged to be the best diesel Ford's ever made. They have a big premium because of the motor. The 4x4 is icing on the already expensive cake.

Diesel vans are very rare....kinda like folks looking for diesel Suburbans which ended production in 2003.

Mercedes/Dodge Sprinter is diesel and available with 4wd and from a quick read they even offer low range as an option.
