Does anyone know when SP1 will be out for XP?

What do you need a service pack for? Perhaps there are some alternate solutions....

Let me get the flames out of the way for you.

<FLAME/> Why do you need a service pack for? What are you a noobie or something ? It's not Microsoft's fault that you don't know how to use a pc ? Maybe we should put out a service pack for your brain instead since you don't know what you are doing when running the most secure and stable OS on the market!</FLAME>

LoL - Remember when dealing with Windows it's never Microsoft's fault but the uuuuuzer's fault. So you have no one to blame but yourself.

I believe it's already out. At least when you go to windows update and install the critical updates it shows up under device manager at sp1

why do you need a service pack? all the updates are found in windows update. those updates on the site will ultimately be the service pack.

Why does he need a service pack? Because micro$oft ships out crappy software that doesn't work right the first time.
Dont' jump all over him.

Geez peeps, give the guy a break. Does ANYONE here remember WIn2000 pre sp1? Lots of little bugs and glitches. Win2000 really became 'da bomb after sp2. It's early in the XP curve still. Many little problems that could use fixing. I'm sure there'll be an sp1 ,2 etc for XP, just be patient and learn the OS in the meantime. The patches will make it even better.

Uh uh, like the minor issue with uPnP.

Unless you're suicidal, you should never directly connect a Windows system to the internet. I won't either. I've got everything safely running behind a Linux-based firewall.

Sort of, but not quite. When I look at my "add or remove programs" screen I see three entries that begin "Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) [see Qnnnnnn for more information]". I guess when it gets to an embarassing level (like hundreds of hotfixes) then MS will bundle them all in an SP.

Extremists these days...
*sigh*

I would actually prefer that Microsoft hold off on releasing a service pack for as long as they can -- this way the service pack will encompass as many fixes and patches as it can.
I'd hate to have six (?) service packs floating around, like with Windows NT.

Hey, chillout.

Nobody is jumping on anybody here but you.

All we are asking is "what is the problem?" so mabye we can help him solve it. None of us can make MS release a patch, but mabye we can help work around a problem he has in the meantime.

Jeez, where is the love at? haha. As long as I can remember, MS has made one blunder after another, and the funniest thing about it is that we continue to buy and support the product. Nobody is perfect, and Windows is far from it and for that matter any other operating system. Linux is claimed to be the most stable "Bah"! Before upgrading to WinXP on my gamer box, I had it running Windows 98 SE with all security patches and updates. It ran stable o/c from 1000 Mhz to==>1175 Mhz for 62 days without reboot. Only reason I had to reboot it was due to adding in my GeForce 3 and then going to WinXP. Rule of thumb when dealing with Exploits. #1 if data can go out, data can come in. Piggybacking is possible! #2 If your online 24/7 your at risk, I don't care what OS your running. I just love logging the pricks trying to get in. hahaha..

:)D

"Merry Christmas" to all.

I wish I could release sub-par products for years, and then release a product, (long-overdue) that should have been win95.

I do get paid good money to support Microsoft products but, I have to actually DO my job, not promise it...

Sorry for the rant! :D

But if MS products weren't so crappy, you wouldn't have a job supporting them... ;)
