Does anyone know what this blue screen means?

I use WinXP Pro. One day when I started up my computer, I was in DOS and forced to choose between those safe mode, last known configuration, start normally, etc. No matter which mode I chose, it ended up with the following blue screen while loading.

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

(skipped a bunch of routine suggestions)

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0x80A7D920, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"

Does anyone know what it means? Or what is it related to? Hardware or software problem?

Thanks.

stop errors tend to be very specific. Search the code on google, and you should find an answer.

Try booting up from the XP CD, and go into the recovery console, when asked for a password leave the box blank and press enter on your keyboard. Once in the recovery console run chkdsk /r
