Does anyone know this program?

It uses DOS.
It is for French. (We use it at our school to practice, but I want to be able to use it at home for further practice)
It is a jeopardy type style "game"
The program is named FQM.exe (well it shows up on the taskbar that way)

If you used this in high school and remember what its called or where I can find it, I'd be awesome. My French teacher can't remember what its called either and she'd also like to know.

OP: Would a different but similar program work?

That looks like something we would have used in the late 80's. I'm sure we could find you something a little newer but still similar?

Why bother learning French? English is obviously the master language because humans "think" in English.... I'm doing it now.

It has to be the exact one. My teacher said it was really old [the program].

If not sarcasm read here: Americans are very ignorant and they only know the world they live in. Most states required you to take a language so you realize that you are not the only ones in the world and that the world does not revolve around America. Knowing a second language (third in my case) is very good for work and other things. Your job may have a client that speaks French (just an example) better than English and that they would be able to convey their ideas more clearly. You may travel to France be able to use it. You never know when it will be helpful.

why would you want to use such ancient software?

Just use memrise if you need to learn vocabulary. I wish this existed when I was in high school, it's much easier to learn with it.

Because it works and shes been using it for decades. French, as a language, has not changed. Same with English. So if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

I like how it says "appuyer sur space bar pour continuer" lol. That's what you call Franglais. :p

I bet you can just grab the EXE and possibly DLLs, these arn't your standard bloated programs that are so spread out in the system that you can't transplant them. I remember we had a similar program at school for typing class, it was called "Tapez" lol. I grabbed the .com file (yes .com, no .exe lol) and it worked fine at home.

Come to think of it, I recall coding an app that was really similar to that, it was for science class and asked science questions. It read the questions from a text file.

It will be tough to actually find this though if you can't just grab it off the PC, these tend to be specialized educational apps that you can't just go out and buy. One thing today's generation misses out on is the Unisys Icon computers. Those were awesome.

Its running a computer with a Pentiu. 3 I believe.
Or one of earliest P4s. Its also running XP. It takes forever for anything to load. And I don't have access, neither does the teacher. We can't do anything with cmd prompt, task manager, or control panel.

Can you run external programs? If so, try ProcessExplorer. How about booting to a CD? Boot to a GNU/Linux disc, and see what's on the machine. Or you could just ask IT.

It has a broken CD drive but does have a floppy

IT at my school is incompetent

Well my school system is incompetent. They bought new machines with 2gb of ram. These are Sandy bridge i3s and Xeons..

Since the PC has a (working?) floppy drive, you may be able to create a DOS boot floppy to get access to the drive. If the drive is formatted NTFS you'll have to track down an old version of NTLDR (NT Loader) so DOS will be able to read NTFS. Another option may be to boot an emergency repair floppy and get to a command line that way.

If you really want to get the info off the drive you can pull the drive from the PC and make it a slave in anther PC that you have full access and grab the data that way.

at some point an upgrade is necessary so it's better to look at options while the legacy stuff is still working.

church latin hasn't changed either but it's become obsolete because the contest changed.
