Give a Static IP, you are Kidding.

In some geographical areas they offer a more expensive service call Internet connection Pro. Static IP goes with this service.

I have the same story here my RR Entry Level IP is the same for very very long time.

However I will not want to take the risk of not been able to get to my system, so I run a Dynamic DNS email program.

This program checks locally the IP and if it did not change does nothing. If it changed it would sent an email with the new number to one of my Webmail Boxes so I can get it from any where.

Sorry, static IP wasn't the correct term. I meant non-changing dynamic IP :D. I haven't had my IP change since ....well, never. I have even reset the modem and waited a few days and nothing. Anyway, thanks Jack.

Isn't that kind of pointless because nothing for that IP will ever get routed to you ?

i was surprised at first that it worked. you just have to make sure that ip isnt already registered by another user on comcast. also you can't change the entire ip. only the last 3 or 4 number.

in the router's setup age... all i did was configure the static ip and set in comcast's dns.

My IP has changed a couple times from Comcast. Usually only happened early on when I powered down the cable modem over night.

For the most part, if you leave your cable modem on 24/7 you should have the same IP for a long time.
