I'm trying to run Baldur's gate in virtual XP, and it installs and starts fine, but I can't lower my monitor's resolution below 1680x1050 so it crashes. My monitor is locked at that res when running virtual XP.

I've tried everything I can think of. Does anyone have any idea how to lower it?

Use a real virtualization product like VMware workstation or ESXi both allow you to do that.

Are you talking about the virtual machine XP that Microsoft provides for Windows 7? If so, just change the resolution the same way you would change it on a stand-alone Windows XP installation (right-click the desktop, click Properties, click the Settings tab, then move the slider for screen resolution).

Yeah, that one.

I can't - it's locked in the left position at 1680x1050.

No, I haven't tried that yet; I was hoping the Virtrual XP PC that you can download with Windows 7 would do the trick.

But the resolution thing has me stumped. I don't know why it's locked at 1680x1050.

If I can't figure this out I will try VMware.

Is the Virtual Machine window maximized? That's the only reason I can think of that it would be locked at the monitor's resolution.
