Does anyone know how to convert a ball mouse to an optical mouse?

I love my logitech 3-button gaming mouse but the ball thing is going to wear out eventually and you cant buy them anymore. I thought it might be possible to gut an optical mouse and switch the electronics over. Anyone ever seen a way to do that?

possible but realy hard to do i would imagine, but just get used to another mouse and save the trouble

No can do. This mouse is too damn good and there is nothing out there like it. I do have an older PS-2 version...the white one, maybe I'll try to hack that one out a bit. I imagine that the had part would be rewiring the buttons.
