Long story short I'm going to have to format my computer tonight and clean install Win 7.

For BF3 I have read online and I believe the save data is in the My Doc's folder. Has can anyone confiirm? If I lose my single player progress I don't care as much I just don't want to lose my multiplayer level and stuff. I feel like multiplayer might pull from Origin anyway as it shows your level in the client?

For MW3 I have no clue where the save data is, again multiplayer progress is what I care most about, but I don't *think* that's synched with the steam cloud. I've read that there is a save folder in the Steam folder for the game but that folder is empty and i've read that backing that up didn't work.

Please any input is much appreciated.

multiplayer is 100% based on the servers you have no access to it at all.
as it would casue tampering if people could.

for single player
BF3 is fully cloud supported. choose cloud in Origin and it will be backed up to the cloud.

MW uses steam for steamcloud as well.

Okay, can anyone else confirm? I didn't think steam backed up games yet. (Although at one point I know they planned on it)

Yes, Steam uses cloud-saving for a large chunk of it's library, and has been for a while now. I don't have MW3 personally but I'm pretty sure it's a Steamworks game.

However, just because it's Steamworks doesn't necessarily mean it uses cloud-saving though... it's possible that MW3 doesn't use this feature for singleplayer saves. But who knows. Maybe someone who actually has the game could chime in.

Informant, why can't you just go into your filesystem and check? You said you "read online that BF3 saves are stored in My Docs", but did you bother to take a look in there? There will most likely be a folder titled "Electronic Arts", in which there will be another folder called "Battlefield 3" or something to that extent. If not there, then look in a folder called "My Games" in your "My Documents", and it might be in there. So the folder structure will be something like \My Documents\My Games\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 3. (Without using the "My Games" folder, the folder structure will just be \My Documents\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 3. It really depends on the game.)

Edit: The folder may not be called "Electronic Arts", but rather, "Origin". Look for both.

If the save files aren't in there, then there is a slight chance they could be stored with the program files themselves. (C:\Program Files\Origin\ or wherever it's installed.) This is unlikely though... most newer games don't do this anymore. But you could still check there.

If you can't find the save files in EITHER of those locations, then they're being saved online and you have nothing to worry about.

Repeat this process for MW3.

I didn't do any Google searches for this, and I don't own either of these games. This is all coming from knowledge I've had since I became a PC gamer. It's not very difficult.

It has nothing to do with being difficult. I did say I found the BF3 saves, so I think i'm okay there but wanted to mention it. I have already looked for MW3 save folder, but was unable to find it. I'm quite certain that steam does no backing up of any save game data (but could be wrong) and they only synch your settings.

I Googled around a bit, and it looks like MW3 does use the Steam cloud for gamesaves (still not 100% sure though, so don't kill me if this isn't true, hahah). Think about it for a moment though. If you can't find the saves anywhere on your computer, and you don't think they're stored on the Steam cloud, then... where exactly would they be stored? :\

Pretty sure it uses the Steam cloud.

MW3 single player saved games are in my case in: C:\Programfiles(X86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\call of duty modern warfare 3\players2 folder. I just copied this entire folder to another computer and my single player and co-op games were synced. Hope that helps.
Cheers

Don't care about BF3 S/M and MW3 M just enable origin cloud and steam cloud and you'll have acces on every computer you log on, I switched to another computer last week and all data was saved here through cloud except MW3 Singleplayer, not because cloud doesn't save it but because I didn't played it before so I can't really say that it was saved.
