Does anyone know how the employee discount for Best Buy works

I'm waiting for my brother to get back to me but I thought I would ask here just in case. I wanna get a new laptop there but was wondering if anyone here knew what kind of discount it would be.

5% over cost...meaning if bestbuy gets a tv for $100, you get it for 105

edit: the discount on the laptop wouldn't be alot...maybe $20

price the pay plus 5%. but keep in mind, some of the items in the store they make no money on. Last time i was going to buy a GBA game, 29.99. Friends discount came out to 28.89. So each item is slightly different...

What a bummer cause I was hoping to score on a cool deal on a wireless router w/ap, wireless nic, and maybe even a new laptop. I thought I would maybe save a couple hundred bucks🙁

Don't some companies like Intel or AMD offer specials for BB employees sometimes? I remember a thread awhile ago about a 1 ghz Athlon+mobo for $149 for BB workers(this was when that combo cost well over $500)

Cost plus 5%. Not worth it on a laptop because there is such little markup on most of the computer products. Be careful thought because you dont qualify to use his employee discount legally. It's ony for parents, in-laws, and your children under 19. Siblings dont qualify and if you get the wrong manager asking questions and get caught it could be his job. For a laptop youd be better off just buying it yourself.

Yes, they do that. If you work for bestbuy, they have lists of employee discount stuff that you can get from different manufacturers like Creative, Linksys, and some others I cant remember. But you have to fill out a form for those items and fax it to the manufacturer (like mail order), it's not through the store. And they do occasionally have intel training seminars(but you have to be in home office) and thats where they have the chips and tips thing where you can get a cpu/mobo combo for like 150

they mark that stuff up 100%!!

my friend who works at BB got me a Black Widow 2800 car alarm for $55.00 w/his discount -- normally it's about $189-200!
