Thinking about purchasing. Used the beta and it's awesome. Any estimates at this time on how much XP will be? Please post here, thanks!

A lot probably....I dunno, if there is a consumer version, that would probably not be too expensive...

It is on a subscription basis AFAIK so it should have a pretty cheap shelf price but an exorbiant per hour/day/week/year pricing

<< It will cost me just as much as all the previous versions of Winders have cost me >>

hee hee, wish I could say the same

Don't you pay for a Windows XP "subscription?" I think it is going to be less than Win2k, but you need to keep paying for it for the rest of your life or you get no updates.

Yeah, this great idea is going to work.

You walk into Walmart, pickup the XP shrinkwrapped box and checkout paying the listed price ($??). Then it runs for a while but eventually a dialog pops up telling you your OS will be disabled unless you pay again ($??). You agree to a contract written by MS lawyers, some of the best in the business, to enter into a subscription plan. Then you pay yearly after that in perpetuity ($??). Heck of a deal, eh?

An operating system is a product, not a service MS. :(

I'm sure a lot of people will be buying the cheapest (up front) version and downloading a patch to fix this! :p

Cheers!

I don't think Microsoft will let it out of Redmond until this issue is resolved to the customers satisfaction. to do otherwise is pure folly, not that they haven't traveled that road before.

XP is no more than an upgrade to Win2K and an effort to ween all users off the 9X kernal. I applaud that idea, but renting an OS is never going to fly,and making people pay for upgrades to fix the buggy crap in the first place, is an anaptha to clear thinking individuals.

Enough to compensate for M$'s losses with the XBox.

I think it was supposed to cost $50, a yearly fee, then you pay again and again.

still its going to suck.
