ANSWER:

Console PROGRAM G3 POWERPC 128MB RAM---- 19h23m

GUI PROGRAM G3 POWERPC 128MB RAM---------- 25h57m

394 mins or 6 hrs 34 mins difference....

Yikes, console is a bit faster 🙂

But.... still too slow 🙁

Testing the G4 now w/ 640mb ram.... hope its a bit faster

Looks like you are going to be able to tell us. 🙂

I think Macs are great on graphics but not so hot on crunching numbers ... but I may be wrong. :Q

Thanks for renaming, I was searching for it for a second until I saw dxkj pop up 😉

Right now it looks like its on pace for a 20hr WU :Q

What kind of macs are it?

For the RC5 project are macs on of the best systems!
I used to get almost 9,000,000 keys/sec and with an PIV 2.0Ghz about 2,400,000...
So crunchin raw numbers (integer) the G4 really rules. But with FPU (seti...) I don't think
that they are so great..

Are they running OS X?

If so you can set them up with the CLI and that will speed the times up considerably (they will still be slower than a PC, but the difference won't be as great)

yup OS X...

Could you point me to a page explaining this? I downloaded the OS X program from the seti home site and figured that was the best optimized one.

Thanks!

yeah... I finally sorted things out, and figured out what to do... I started one on a different mac using command line ... we will see if this one fares better 🙂

thanks

Now I just need someone to explain how to make it run that everytime the computer starts up, and how to make it hide (IE be invisible)

A Pentium 166MMX would take about 48hrs/WU!😉

I had a Pentium 166MMX@188MHz with SDRAM ,it took about 40hrs/WU ,a Pentium 233MMX@266 on the same mbrd took about 30.5hrs/WU
And yeah that G3 is slow!:Q🙁 ,I seem to recall in days of old before v3.03 that the Macs ruled at SETI with their big cache!
