Does anyone know anything about pool filters?

I recently moved into a house with a pool. This is the first pool I have ever owned so I am learning as I go.

The old owner came over and helped me open the pool and showed me how to set things up. Everything was going fine until just recently. For some reason I am having problems with the filter. Its a Jacuzzi Laser sand filter if that helps. Above ground pool.

Anyway, I am having trouble keeping the pump primed when its running. It fills with water but half empties as the filter is running. The pressure guage stays between 15 and 20. If I hook my vacuum up to it the pressure drops to around 10 or below and it seems like the pump is surging. I cleaned all the filter baskets so that isn't the problem.

I have a call into a pool guy but I was just wondering if there is something simple I can do before he comes out.

If anymore info is needed I'll gladly post it. Thanks.

Air leak in the filter lines or maybe in the closure cover - could be that a large O-ring type seal has a crack that allows air to suck in.

Damn - pools are like having kids that never grow up and leave home, they just keep costing you money . . like forever.

lol i know what you mean.

Well, I checked the o-ring and it looks fine. I lubricated it last night just to make sure its ok so I don't think its that.

As for the leak in the air line...I thought about that. Guess the pool guy will let me know for sure.

Its frustrating.
