Does anyone know anything about Flaskmpeg?

I'm trying to cut some my DVDs into Divx so I can watch them at work during lunch. I put the DVD on my HD using DeCSS. I'm using the Divx 311 codex and the avi release 015 beta 4 plug in for Flaskmpeg. Every time I go to compress the DVD into .avi Flaskmpeg crashes. I've looked all over the internet and can't seem to figure out the problem. I've tried both Win98SE as well as Win2k and I get the same results. I did try to not decode the audio and it still crashed so I think it has something to do with the video compressing. Help.

How well do you know how to work the program? (No offense, of course 🙂 ) Remember to set the output to .avi, and the output plugin to MPEG4 DivX 🙂. Also, you don't need to copy the DVD to your hard disk, I don't think. FaskMPEG should just be able to open it straight off the DVD. Don't know if that will help, can you give us more info?

I use it. I do CladDVD first, to get the movie to my HD. Just "decrypt movie" to get the files to the HD. I then run Flask and set up the Audio codec to MP3 and video to Divx Low Motion (I think it works better). Set your keyframes to a lower number to keep it from being jerky in playback. Sometimes it will speed up in certain parts. Keyframing down to less than 5 will help. Set the other options the way you want. I usually keep everything at default except the resizing options, which vary from movie to movie. My data rate is about 800 for an 82 minute movie with MP3 128 kb selected. That will fit on a 650 MB disk. That was kinda vague I guess, but I can help more if you need it. I would get crashes like that too, but it worked when I used cladDVD....

Thanks for the replies. I figured out why Flaskmpeg was crashing. I seemed that the latest avi plug in was doing it.

What res and data rate do you all usualy use for your movies?

I tried using flask mpeg last night for the first time on my gladiator dvd. Now for some reason when I woke in the morning I had a 2 gig divX movie. What do you guys do to compress the movie to fit on a cdrom. Also what codec do you choose for audio? It use to crash on me as well finally got it to work. Its pretty neat, now I can copy rentals.. 🙂

Use 720xwhatever the vertical is supposed to be, since then you don't loose any. And 880 Kilobits per second is the standard rate, although it is a lot better to make it higher and then just cut the file in two pieces to burn it.
