Does anyone know anything about buying jewelry?

I need to get some sapphire earrings as a gift. I never buy jewelry, so I know nothing about this. How much should I expect to pay? Where should I look online (or is that a bad idea)? What should I look for when buying sapphires? Any help appreciated!!

Get a second opinion from another woman before you decide to buy anything. Most womens' taste in jewelry is very refined compared to the average man's. You have a very slim chance of buying something she'll really like unless you get help.

you are right, but there are just some things that are classic peices of jewelry that almost any woman would love, like simple round diamond and sapphire earrings. Plus, if you know anything about the gal you are buying them for, you should know if she likes simple things, trendy, contemporary, etc.

Macys.com has some nice stuff, every once in a while it gets really cheap, then other times its expensive.
I ordered jewelry for my gf from macys.com it worked out great, i also ordered from mondera.com and that worked out great too.

Stay away from overstock.com for jewelry -ive bought things from there that look like total crap when they arive (once i bought a pendant for my gf from there and the back was totally unfinished, parts of it looked like a hunk of solder)

Stay away from ebay, theres too much variance with it, its like buying expensive things at the flea market.
