i am writing an essay on data security and was wondering is data encryption ever used by corporation to store data??
or is only ever used in the transmission of data ??

Depends on the corporation. Most of them have data they don't want other employees to see, most notably HR and accounting data, whether they encrypt it or not is up to them, our company does use PGPDisks for some of our accounting data stored on the NetWare servers they use.
