Does anyone know a Good forum for people considering Bankruptcy?

Alt.Bankruptcy was once a usable forum with honest info. Sorry that I looked now. I saw no porn, but not much useful info either.

Suggestions to seek legal counsel are appreciated. I have spoken with a professional consumer bankruptcy attorney of good reputation. He seems to have his hands tied. OR, he is just too busy to answer/ask other than binary questions.

Can you pay your creditors back? y/n

Do you want to file bankruptcy? y/n

I (the probable bankrupt consumer) want to pay off some of my better creditors because they were good. No response.

The brave paladin, or scummy shyster, trying to get the client the best possible outcome does not seem to be available at the low end of the financial spectrum.

So, I've seen a lot of good advice here. Does anyone know a good place to get pre-filing advice beyond the NOLO books at the public library?

My wife cleaned her credit up about 6 or 7 years ago following advice on www.creditboards.com. She had a some old items that were out of statute, some already paid but still being sold as bad debt, some she never even heard of before, as well as current creditors that we set up payment plans with. There were very knowledgeable folks on that board who provided form letters and steps to take etc. We followed the steps and one by one each item was removed.

They have a bankruptcy forum as well. You have to register to check it out. Like I said its been 7 years and we were there for credit tips not bankruptcy so YMMV.

What questions do you have?

I gauged filing but talked to creditors first about settlements to get an idea how far they'd go. Then I decided to file and hired a bk lawyer. A few months passed before actually filing (there is a ton of documentation to get together in advance of the lawyer filing), and I changed my mind. I fired the lawyer and called the creditors and finalized negotiations myself with them. That's the condensed version at least.

When I filed 7-8 years ago I did an emergency filing and was done in two hours. Had BK lawyer meet me at 8pm, he had filed the thing electronically before midnight.

Had considered filing for 5 years before that. Always thought it'd be a major headache. It wasn't.

Thanks sik, I'll see if they can help. They Look good.

I don't know how it will turn out; but working with good people always helps.
