I first got glasses in 8th grade. Probably would have done better to get them in 7th. I still wear them. I tried contacts but prefer glasses. My job requires safety glasses for many activities so I just wear safety glasses as my regular specs.

How much on average do you spend a year on contact lenses, solutions, and such?

My contacts are about $70 for 12 (6 per eye), and I buy them about once a year. They would last longer, but sometimes I come home drunk and don't take them out, then rub one out of my eye in the middle of the night. Or I will be somewhere and have no solution, so I'll throw out the pair that I'm wearing and put new ones in the next day.

I think solution is like $12 for 2 bottles, and each bottle lasts me a couple months I think.

So total, ~$100, maybe $120.

I started wearing glasses in 10th grade. Now (8 years later) I decided to switch to contact lenses (heard bad stuff about surgery), and I was shocked by how comfortable they feel.

The only trouble is putting them on/taking them off, but once you get used to it (now takes me less than 30 secs) you will love them. They offer a lot more freedom than glasses (lie on couch on your side and watch TV, play sports, sunglasses, etc...) and of course your face looks better (if you dislike the glasses look... which I did.) They're also great for peripheral vision (helps while driving).

I started with the disposable daily Acuvue lenses, but later switched to the monthly ones (less expensive).

Thick frames are no longer nerdy. In fact, they're so cool that hipsters and music stars wear thick frames with flat lenses or nothing at all just to look "cool."

Nope, my eyesight is perfect. I always laugh when I look at my upper-division classes and see that everyone else either has glasses, or has talked about wearing contacts. I love being genetically superior.

And they laugh at certain individuals for being intellectually superior... 😉

I've worn glasses since 2nd grade. Switched to contacts after 8th grade, but I still get glasses and wear them around sometimes.

I plan to get laser eye surgery when I am old enough, to prevent me from getting eyes as bad as my Dad's.
