Does anyone here take medication for high blood pressure?

Anyone here take medication for high blood pressure? If so, what type of medication is it? Is it a beta blocker type? Do you experience any type of side effects? My BP is very high and do plan on going to the doctor very soon. Any words of encouragement is great.

yes, I use norvasc.
At first it made my ankles swell but that went away and bp dropped.
expensive stuff. Hope you got good medical.
But high BP is not a desirable option.

I take Hyzaart for my high blood pressure. Don't really notice any side effects from it except maybe going to the bathroom a lot.
If your blood pressure is high, go to the doctor NOW, not very soon. It is not something you want to mess around with.

I hope you don't mind me asking any of you this but are you overweight? I know for a fact due to my weight that is why my BP is so high. Also if you don't mind me asking, how high was your BP when you went to get it checked?

Yes, I am overweight. Most likely if you are put on medication it will be for life but if you rearrange your diet and exercise and get into better shape it will really help your pressure and you may be able to stop taking the medication, as long as you keep yourself healthy.
My pressure spiked up really high (220/98) which sent me scurrying to the emergency room. It has been controlled with medication ever since. That was 3 1/2 years ago.

I am overweight, but my BP, cholesterol and pulse is great.

I currently take 2 pills for BP. One is a "water" pill (a diuretic sp?... it makes you pee) and the other is beta blocker.

Hopefully once I get my weight down, I'll be able to stop taking one, or both.

I haven't noticed any side-effects other than if I miss more than one day I can feel the difference (although this may be psycological) and if I miss a day or so of the water pill.... I don't wander to far from a rest room. lol

I'm on Diovan HCT right now, was on Toporol XL for about a year...worked fairly well....at first made me drowsy but now just the side effect of the diuretic part of diovan hct is that i have to run to the bathroom about 2 hours after taking it.
