Does anyone here own an old Mustang? 65'-70'?

I'm looking to get an old Mustang, preferrably a fastback. I would really like to get a 69'-70' Mach 1, but they are few and far between in my price range (around 10 grand). Does anyone know of any good websites to shop for Mustangs and just get general info on them? I would like to here stories or anything about em' too 🙂 A fella down the street from me has a 1970 Mach 1 with the 351-C w/ Shaker Hood and 4-speed. Damn it's such a sweet car and he has had it since he was 18 years old, and no he won't sell it to me 🙁

http://forums.stangnet.com/ Has a classified section at the top of the page.

My dad had a 66 fastback gt with the HI-PO 289 4 speed in it and man that a lot of fun to ride around in. Of coarse the bastard sold it before I was old enough to drive, think I was 8 or 9.

At the sametime my mom had a 66 coupe 289 auto. It wasn't fast but was still a pretty nice ride and yep they sold that one too but waited till I was almost old enough to drive at 14 l:disgust:

I personally own a '66 Shelby and a '66 Fastback and I build quite a few Mustangs for others and I don't think you are going to find a decent fastback of any year for less than 10k and you could spend as much as 20K+. The prices on fastbacks have really skyrocketed lately. I went to a buddies house in Austin this weekend to weld in a new battery apron on the '66 fastback he bought a frew months back. I hadn't seen the car until friday and it was rather rough considering he paid 6K for it. It needs a new tranny and engine, paint, blah blah blah. Old Mustangs have become quite expensive so you better save your pennies. Mach 1s will run you 12-15K for a decent one so unless you make a hell of a find I would suggest saving you money and waiting to purchase until you have the money to buy a good one.

Yeah I know they can be expensive, especially the fastbacks. The cheapest Mach 1 I have seen was a 69', 4 speed, with the 351-W for about 12,500. I'm trying to contact him but he lives in FL and I live in SC and he is never home 🙁

I would like to get one that I could restore a little bit, not a piece junk mind you, but something that could use a little fixing up.

Does it have to be a fastback? You could probably get a nice notchback with the straight 6 in it for pretty cheap, then put whatever motor you want in it.

That's what I was thinking about doing as well. I would REALLY prefer a hatchback, I just like how they look. How much does a 289 or a 302 and say a 4 speed tranny cost?

EDIT: Wouldn't that make the value go down on the car though? I mean, to not have the original engine etc?

A good motor will run you from a couple grand up to $10,000 or more depending on how fast you want to go.

There's no special significance to a 6 cyl mustang, it won't be wrth any less with, say, a GT-40 302 in it 🙂

edit: here's a place with prices for motors: link

I had a 1968 mustang coupe gt with a 302 c-4 automatic. It was the most fun i ever had with a car. Had to sell it when i went to college. Boy was that a mistake.
