Does anyone here own a Mercedes SLK roadster?

Hi.

My mom is looking for a new car and she likes the little Mercedes SLK Roadsters with the retractable hard top. If anyone here owns one or knows someone that owns one, I'd love to get some impressions of it.

TIA,

Sal

The only reason why she was looking at the SLK is because it has the retractable hard top. She wants a convertable, but doesn't want to have to live with a convertable, when it's not sunny and warm out. We live in Chicago btw.

The SL is way out of her price range and it's a large car. The Lexus is even out of her price range and a larger car than what she wants anyway. I can't think of any other roadsters with the slick retractable hard top. Are there any others? She'll probably end up with a Z3 or Z4 BMW with a hard top if the SLK sucks.

Thanks again.

my mom has one and she loves it..

EDIT: if she's a larger or tall person she won't like it (personal opinion), i personally don't feel comfortable driving in the car, not much space for your arms to spread out, etc, but my mom is petite, she fits in it like a glove..

the 4cyl should be plenty of speed for her too, no need for the 320

Porsche Boxster/Porsche Boxster S + Hardtop. Smokes all of the other roadsters. But if your mom is just a granny driver, the SLK is more than enough.

The SL is only 20 inches longer overall than the SLK. It's still a small car, much smaller than the SL it replaced.
But the $55000 or so price tag for the SLK is quite a bit less than the $87000 for the SL -- actually, because of demand, many dealers are asking $120,000 for this year's model!

*edit*

Oh yeah, you wanted an opinion. One of my friends has one. It's nice but seems a bit small and flimsy for a mercedes. I felt very vunerable driving it, almost like I was in a go-kart. The 2002 SL at least felt weighty and secure. Handling on the SLK is tops though. Get the V6. The Kompressor engine is underpowered IMO
