Does anyone here have dish network sat. service?

Do you happen to have a universal remote control that operates the dish network satellite box? If so, what kind is it? I really just want one of the cheaper Radio Shack remotes and not one of the $200 pronto (or whatever they're called).

I got a remote for it at walmart for $10, dish network wanted $45 works fine, not sure want brand it is off the top of my head but it is silver and has a Menu button on it. Its not a full functioning as th dish remote though. Hope this helps later todd

DO you know what model # or even brand name your dish receiver is? How long have you had it? I have read that earlier receivers don't use IR. Instaed they use RF (or something) so universal remotes may not work??????

some universal remote will work.. just read the fine print...
however, you may or may not have the ability to do more fancy stuff with it.. like hard reset the eeprom (just incase you have password locked and forgot) or reprogram eeprom.

Try getting the Sony one for around $90 if i'm not mistaken (some got it to as low as $60 during the MSN Promo).

I, on the other hand, use the remote that was supplied with my 301 receiver. I use it to control the TV and some features on the sound receiver (DD/DTS/Stereo) as well.

I've seen a few new boxes that use RF only, infact the box isn't even anywhere near the TV, it's placed in a utility room and then cable is run to the TV. That's probably pretty new though and I've only seen it in new houses.

My reciever is a mosel 3500, I have had it since about 1998, my parents us a optional rf so that they can use it in any room, but its a IR model and is older then mine.

I believe the Dish 5000 is the only model that doesn't have IR support - only RF on that one. I use the Radio Shack model 1994 all in one remote and its great. I have the Dish 501 PVR and can program the remote to do all of the functions the normal dish remote could do (pause, rewind, page up/down, etc). I think the 1994 is about $30 and is the only one I need to fully operate all my devices.

I have a Dish 5000 series. It is both RF and IR. I use a Sony RV-2100 remote and it works fine. Any learning remote would work though.
