What im trying to do is capture from my DIgital camcorder to Uleads software (Media Studio Pro 6.0). It captures first in .AVI then you convert it to whatever you want MPEG1 MPEG2 ect... But as far as I know you cant capture directly into MPEG format. unless you buy a specific hardware device to do so costing minnuim of 200$.



I have been playing around with Video dubbing for some time now. And this I know Windows FAT32 had a 4.0 gig limit when captureing an .AVI file. This sucks BIG FAT cock. My question is does any one know of a way around this?.
 
You can either use the NTFS file system, or capture to a segmented AVI with AVI_IO or VirtualDub. Both programs are excellent, AVI_IO is essentially just a capture program (and it does it very well). VirtualDub not only supports capture, it is a powerful and emminently useful linear editor.

Yes, precisely. The file system used with Windows NT. Practically speaking, it doesn't have a maximum file size...well, it's 16 exabytes, hopefully that would cover your video capture 😉

Nonetheless, segmented capture works exceedingly well, and it doesn't require that you dedicate all your hard drive space to an NTFS partition that can't be accessed by Win9x systems (or without a lot of trouble & processing overhead). Segmented captures do require a bit of setup & prep work, but if you're doing video editing it's a pretty trivial thing.

do I need a program to convert to NTFS file system? can I just format my second HD in NTFS format? or do I need to have win 2000 on the second drive to do so? thanks again your really helping me out here😉
 
Yes, you'd need either Windows NT or 2000 to format the drive in NTFS. Or if you have Partition Magic you can use it to format your drive(s) and resize, move, convert as you see fit. However, I'm not aware of any freeware utilities you can use to format NTFS.

Err, actually you could probably just use the Windows 2000 setup diskettes to do it...I'm not sure. [edit] If you want to try it, you can download the diskette images from Sanx's web site But it's not going to do you any good if your OS can't read the partition. You can use "NTFS for Win98" to gain access, but the processing overhead would probably be prohibitive for video capture and editing. [/edit]
