I remember my first babysitting job when I was 14 years old. I babysat 2 rowdy 6 and 7-year-old boys PLUS a 11-month old infant... for $3/hour, back in 1994.

I babysat for a terror of a 12-year-old, his 8-year-old sister, and their 1-year-old sister for $5/hour.

Out of curiosity, I checked the latest going-rates for babysitters in Los Angeles, and was surprised to see sitters charging $12-20/hour now. :Q Maybe I should look into that as a side job...

EDIT: If you hire sitters, how much do you pay?
 
Most of ATOT is populated by men. And we're generally much more useful on the opening jars, playing video games, drinking beer and fathering bastard children fronts than we are on the babysitting ones.
 
i'd charge 10$/hour. but then again, they'd probably call the cops when they see that a grown man wants to babysit their kids.

I'd ask a minimum of $50/hour before even considering taking on a babysitting job!
 
My g/f is babysitting a kid for a friend (note: friend may = less money) on weekdays from 9-5 BUT the lady's paying for all 3 of her meals during the day, she has a pool she's free to swim in, and an internet conenction/computer to do her online class home work all while getting paid to babysit. She's getting $190 for a 5 day week + all those benefits.

my wife and i rarely use babysquatters, we don't trust too many people with our kids. it usually ends up being friends with kids so we just trade looking after their kids for watching ours
 
i pay the following:

2 college students who are nannies while my wife and I work get 7$ cash/hour.
teenager across the street gets $5 / hour

teenager next door gets $3-4 / hour

we have a 4 yr old, and a 7 month infant. both are pretty easy to take care of.

Yeah, they usually refused to pay me too when they found out I was just sticking the kid under a laundry basket with rocks on it while I went out for a big mac.

I'm 21 now, can't remember how old I was the last time I watched a kid.

It was just a one boy, can't remember his age but he was still in diapers. I was there for a few hours and got a nice chunk of change.

The best part was the awesome porn channels I got paid to watch after I put him to bed.
 
My fiancee and I occasionally watch the kids of a family friend. The parents are around 35yo and the 3 kids are around the ages of 10, 8 and 6. The parents usually come home after a night of partying and just start throwing $20's at us. My fiancee always says she can't accept the money because she has fun taking the kids to the movies or chuck-e-cheese. So then they stick the money in my pocket and I never refuse it. Usually works out to about $15/hr which is pretty good considering they usually pay for our movie ticket as well.
 
I babysit my user's every day, but I don't think that's as relevant here. 😀

$5/hour is slave labor rates, I'd think $10/hour would be near the minimum.
 
Those higher rates are through an agency? if so, they obviously take quite a cut and expect certain things from you (i.e., a car, model behavior, sometimes child or infant CPR classes). I used to work for one in Santa Monica, but it's been many, many years.

I used to babysit from time to time for someone who's like a sister to me. She's not technically family, but we consider her to be. She has 2 girls and I babysat them when they were little (they're now 5th & 3rd grade I believe).
