I have an Infocus 4805 projector that I love, I have hooked up my Xbox and PS2 through it and it looks great. When I attach the gamecube to it, the images are blurry and look like crap. Is it because the gamecube has a crappy video chip(processor) in it? Any way to make the image look better or just forget about it. Thanks ..I am using component cables.

I am not sure but will check that out. I cant see that the cable length is an issue as these are the monster component cables that are bought extra to be used with the gamecube. The PS2 and Xbox are also utilizing the better component cables than the ones that come with the unit.

Monster does not make component cables for the GC. The only component cables for the GC are Nintendo branded. So you're only connecting through S-Video. Of course S-Video 480i signal will look more blurry compared to a 480p on either the X-Box or PS2.

I connected one of those all in one game things to the projector in the cinema and it plays ok but we're far from the screen. Dig Dug looks funny all blown up.

I am of the opinion that all projectors look like crap when compared to a good CRT. But yes a progessive signal is much better. And I can understand you wanting to fill your wall with Mario.

Haven't seen one set up properly I guess.

I *used* to think the same way. Come to find out the problem was with my own eyes. I'm nearsighted. When my eyes are corrected properly the picture is superb.

Like eelw said, I don't think Monster makes component cables for the GC. Anyway, if you have component cables, you have to activate progressive scan by holding B when you power the system on.

Edit: This is from the Nintendo site:

Displaying a Game in Progressive Scan Mode:
In order to display a game in progressive scan mode, the Nintendo GameCube game being played must be programmed for progressive scan and your TV has to have the ability to display this signal in progressive scan mode (click here for more information).

To display a game in progressive scan mode:
1. Turn the system off.
2. With the system turned off, hold down the B Button on the Controller and power on the system.
3. When the message "Would you like to display in progressive scan mode? Yes / No" appears, highlight "Yes" and press the A Button.

If the image appears scrambled when the game is set to progressive scan mode, your television may not be progressive scan compatible. Please consult your TV's owner's manual, or contact the manufacturer to find out if your television is able to display a progressive scan signal. If you have determined that your television can display a progressive scan signal, you may want to try our troubleshooting help by clicking here.

Note about accessing progressive scan: Almost all games that support this feature can be placed into progressive scan mode by holding down the B Button while powering on the system. A few games, however, require you to access this feature through the Options menu of the game. If you are not sure how to access the progressive scan signal, please consult the game manual of the particular disc you are trying to use.

Note about using progressive scan in the future: Once you have accessed progressive scan mode once, the next time you attempt to play a Nintendo GameCube game that is progressive scan-compatible, the system will remember this setting and will default to progressive scan for each game you play in the future that is progressive scan compatible.

I use the nintendo-brand component cables with my 51" HD rear projection. It looks gorgeous with progressive-scan games, and still pretty good in non-progressive games. Something's wrong for you.

HUH?!? There is no better cable for the GC than the official Nintendo component cable. Are you really sure you know what you're talking about???

AFAIK, you can only get component output from the GC with nintendo's cables.

What you may have is some kind of hodge-podge product that splits s-vid/composit into component - the video quality would definately be suspect.

My Component cable that I purchased direct from Nintendo produces an amazing image. You must not have one.

See, thats the problem. I want my images to look good no matter where I am set up, no matter the size or lighting in the room. Thats why I am not big on LCD's either.
I dont want to make a special entertainment room or hire a setup specialist just to get an acceptable experience.
Am also nearsighted. Possibly because I grew up in front of my NES and SNes using a regular TV. :)

This brought back memories of figuring out how to hook up an Atari 2600 to an Advent projection TV in the early 80's. We stood in awe of our majestic achievement because we had never heard of anyone else doing such a thing. :)

Since this has drifted to TV's anyone remember Curtis Mathes? Back in the 70's where they claimed to be the most expensive TV set? I remember seeing those big box projection sets in lobbies. Heavy as a grand piano.

Now it would appear that they are pushed by K-Mart. Funny how times change.

I just got a 1280x720p LCD projector and the image is gorgeous.

Gamecube and PS2 don't do it justice at all! But they still look incredible even though I'm projecting onto a flat off white textured wall (106" 16:9 screen is on the way) and using a composite RF cable (component and HDMI cables on the way as well.

The above images where taken with the PS2 playing a DVD on a composite RF connection on that flat wall... imagine when it's set up properly. Escaflowne in 4:3 mode with black bars on the sides and T2 in 2.85:1 with black bars on top and bottom.

Can't see the black bars? Thats how great this LCD projector is with 2000:1 CR and dynamic iris. Primary purpose was for gaming so I wanted the brilliant color that 3 panel LCD can provide, but movie performance has impressed me greatly as well.

Full white image shows not a single defective pixel and image is spotless, perfectly uniform, not dirty, banded, etc. This completely pwns plasma; only 1" thin screen, 12 lbs weight, 106", and no burn in, just have to replace a $300 bulb, not a $5,000 panel.

It's a Sanyo PLV-Z3 I picked up brand new for $1500. Should do me well till 1920 x 1080p becomes more popular.

PS3 will be native 1280 x 720p with HDMI output.... DROOL

I forgot I posted twice in this.

Yes, those photos look pretty good. But how much did you pay?

EDIT: Saw your edit, thanks.
