I knew there was import costs, but the people helping me said it was included in the shipping. This was the first time I have ever shipped with UPS and will be my last.

Finally got through and the package said it could not be deliverd, so I called up and told them it's not a COD order (it was an international shipment) He goes on to telling me that they receiver is responsible for all import charges. When I shipped the package I asked many times about this they said that it was included in the shipping price, I think asked if I should use my UPS account to ship it (first time doing anything with UPS) and they said it didn't matter because it was international, now my friend is ****** into paying customs bullshit import costs which they couldn't convert for me (he did say .95 cents but I highly doubt) he said if I would have used my UPS account I would have been able to take care of that import cost.
He quoted me on "852,564" Indonesian dollars which is $19,000 USD. I find that VERY HARD to believe since I shipped 3 ipod shuffles as a gift at a 220USD value.
Edit: Just got off the phone with her and she said $90 USD which is a bunch of bullshit. Never shipping with UPS again.
$90 shipping + $90 import costs + the cost of getting money to her because she doesn't live where there's a western union every few miles. forgot to mention gotta get it there before the next drop off tomorrow or the next day or it comes back.Consider it an inexpensive lesson.

The problem I had was I ASKED people at the CUSTOMER SERVICE LOCATION how import taxes were going to work they stated it was INCLUDED IN THE SHIPPING. I'm blaming UPS because of their lack of education to the people that represent them. I find it very frustrating that I have to through all this now when a simple hey use your UPS account from them instead of nah it's international no need.
I'm not gonna go run to UPS and ask for a refund or do something stupid like that but I find it just very frustrating to have to deal with this crap because of 1 person didn't know what to do. I work in retail and I know learning everything is a pain in the ass but the golden rule is if you don't know ask someone else or a manager, I won't complain that the person doesn't know it, I'll be glad he asked so I don't get screwed lie this.

I'm calling bullsh1t on your explanation. I have been working for Brown for many years now, including international operations, and I can tell with 100% certainty that UPS NEVER includes customs duties in the shipping cost, NEVER.
The only person who didn't know what they were doing is you, it is not UPS's job (or USPS, FedEx, DHL, etc) to educate you about your responsibilites as a shipper. Unless something has changed in the last 100 years, customs duties were always paid by the receiving party. So it looks like your friend was burnt due to your lack of due diligence.

What's bullshit about it, it's simple. I asked they said no, yes I ****** up I'll take the blame but it's bullshit I now have to scramble to find a way to pay for the UPS charges (AKA send money to her).
Yes I should have know more THATS WHY I ASKED ABOUT IMPORT COSTS.

If what you're saying is true, you should have no problem with going back to the CS counter and getting your money back.
