Does anyone have experience with Boingo?

My father-in-law has been offered a free Boingo account (through American Express).

Is this something that is helpful out in the real world, or is it really just one of those airport wi-fi services?

Does anyone have any experience with it?

i get it for free from my amex plat too, its fairly useless in the US where I have 4G LTE everywhere. but i have used it in the airport in mexico and in europe, wouldn't pay for it (would get a prepaid SIM) but for free whats to complain about?

Kind of my feeling too - I haven't gotten much use out of it domestically but it will probably be helpful when we go to europe in the spring

Boingo is also in-air correct? I used to every now and again purchase wifi on the planes to do some work but my current laptop is much too large to use comfortably on a plane.

The local ferry terminals offer Boingo wi-fi...I've never needed it enough to pay $4.99/day for it. (nor do I take the ferry often enough to justify a monthly subscription.)

While they do offer in air wifi my understanding of the Amex offer is that it is land based only (Gogo wireless is their in-air offering and is treated as a separate product)
