My boss has a big problem with giving directions or describing what he wants. Many times, he would ask for a CAD drawing or something written up and I would give it to him only to find out he is not satisfied. Earler he asked for a drawing of a section of our production line. I knew to ask MANY questions to get what he wanted. I asked him specifically if I should draw the line exactly how it is NOW. I draw the drawings up, and turn it in. He complains i didn't add the NEW platform in. WTF. I told him that I specifically asked him if he wanted me to draw it exactly how it was now. He said no. I repeated it later again and he didn't say anything. Argh, I have no problem drawing the damn thing. I just don't want to keep making revisions over his vagueness. Any of you have that sort of problem....what the hell can i do if he is stubborn?
Document all discussions, and then send an email to him of what was discussed everytime. That way he knows you have it on file.
Just mention in the email that you wante dto touch base with him and see if there was anything else he wanted.
I should jot down EVERYTHING he says when he describes to me what is needed. I thought just asking him right then and there would clear things up so I would have no doubt what he wanted...I shouldn't have to document my boss everytime he gives me instructions....
Ummm... yes, how long have you been working?
It isn't that hard to do anyways. Just keep a pen and paper readily available when you ask him these questions. Type up the stuff he asked for in a quick email and say you wanted to find out if there was anything you missed in the email. If he replies that that is exactly what he wanted, you have proof and he won't mess with you because if he did you can
professionally say that we discussed the critrium for this project and here is a list of the things needed.
It really takes less than 5 minutes of your time to do anyways.
