Does anyone have any articles or threads about running a pc without a case?

I need to know how to do this semi safely.

I tried a google search, I must not be using the right keywords, all I get garbage.

I want to run the components without a case.

My thoughts were to velcro everything down to a board, and place the board where a spill or static won't be a problem with a small fan blowing over the setup.

Thanks!

Why wouldn't it work?
It would be alright if you don't knock things down, spill tea, dropping coins on it.

But from a safety perspective it is dangerous.
If there are any children in your house, pets, etc they might get electocuted, hurt by the running fans. And of course the computer is in danger as well.

It is easy to knock things over even when you wern't intended to

These will be in the garage running distributed projects. I've got enough spare parts for two computers (minus cases and optical drives).

So I wanted to get two boards, set it all up and link it wirelessly to my main rig.

No kids will be there and there is nothing to spill :p

Actually this is the right forum I'd say, but for this particular question, the Distributed computing guys do this all the time :)

yes, it's OK and easy to do. If you can put them in a place that no one is going to mess with them.

At one time I had 10 rigs folding in the basement with no cases.

Lots of diff racks, you may be able to get a few ideas there.

In that case it would be fine. Make sure there's enough ventilation.
When stacking components use polystyrene or plastic bags to separate them.

My friend had been running a PC without cases fine in a boarding school. But he got told off by my school's Fire Safety officer
